1. INTRODUCTION

The Ultrasonic Open Channel Flowmeter is a state-of-the-art, non-contact device that employs the principle of acoustic reflection to precisely monitor water levels within weirs. By converting these measurements, the flowmeter accurately determines the flow rate of water through the weir. This sophisticated instrument consists of an ultrasonic probe and a mainframe, both encased in a fully plastic sealed structure, ensuring durability and reliability. Ideal for use in both industrial and environmental protection applications, it excels in accurately detecting open channel flow. The ultrasonic probe is strategically positioned at the top of the weir, intermittently emitting ultrasonic waves towards the liquid surface. Once the waves hit the liquid surface, they are reflected back and received by the probe. The main unit then measures the propagation time (t) of this process. Leveraging the predetermined weir type, the host unit calculates the flow rate accurately based on the measured liquid level.

I. Basic Setting After completing the installation of the instrument, set the installation height and select the standard weir/flume type along with its corresponding instrument for operation. II. Installation Height Setting The installation height varies depending on the type of water measuring weir/flume used. Below are methods for confirming installation height for several standard types: Parshall Flume: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the bottom inside the water measuring flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the lowest point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters. Triangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the right-angle point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters.
III. Flumes/Weirs Selection and Setting of Corresponding Geometric Parameters Choose the standard flume/weir type according to the actual type of flume/weir in use. Set the corresponding geometric parameters based on the selected type. Below are the geometric parameters required for several common flumes/weirs: Parshall Flume: Select 'Parshall Flume' as the flume type and set the standard flume number. The width of the throat section determines the flume number, with the measured width detailed in Table 1 to aid in selecting the correct standard flume number. Rectangular Weir: Select 'Rectangular Weir' as the flume type and set the channel width, weir width, bottom height of the rectangular weir, along with a detailed description of rectangular weir geometric parameters.
