1. INTRODUCTION

The RS485 Ultrasonic Open Channel Flow Measurement device is an advanced, non-contact solution utilizing the acoustic reflection principle to monitor water levels in weirs. This state-of-the-art flowmeter, comprising a robust ultrasonic probe and a mainframe, is designed with a fully sealed plastic structure to ensure durability. Ideal for both industrial and environmental applications, it provides precise open channel flow measurements. Positioned above the weir, the ultrasonic probe emits periodic ultrasonic beams to the liquid surface, which are then reflected back and received by the probe. The main unit measures the propagation time (t) and, using the predefined weir type, accurately calculates the flow rate based on the liquid level.

I. Basic Setting After completing the instrument installation, simply set the installation height and select the appropriate weir/flume type for the operation. II. Installation Height Setting The installation height varies based on the type of water measuring weir/flume: Parshall Flume: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the bottom inside the water measuring flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the lowest point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters. Triangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the right-angle point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters.
III. Flumes/Weirs Selection and Setting of Corresponding Geometric Parameters Choose the flume/weir type based on the actual setup. Set the corresponding geometric parameters for each type: Parshall Flume: Select the flume type as Parshall flume and set the standard flume number. The width of the throat section determines the flume number, as detailed in Table 1. Rectangular Weir: Select the flume type as rectangular weir, and set the channel width, weir width, bottom height, and geometric parameters of the rectangular weir.
