1.INTRODUCTION

Ultrasonic open channel flowmeter, is a non-contact, the use of acoustic reflection principle to detect the level of water in the weir, 
through the conversion to obtain the flow of water through the weir. The meter is composed of ultrasonic probe and mainframe, both of 
which are full plastic sealed structure, and can be widely used in industry and environmental protection industry to accurately detect the 
flow of open channel.
The ultrasonic probe is installed in the upper part of the weir, which periodically emits a beam of ultrasonic waves to the liquid 
surface, which is reflected and received by the probe after reaching the liquid surface, and the propagation time t of the process is 
measured by the main unit. According to the known speed of sound v can be derived from the liquid surface to the probe distance d 
(distance measurement value), in the known probe to the bottom of the weir distance, that is, the premise of the installation height H, can 
be converted to the liquid level height h. Based on the determined type of weir, the host can obtain the flow rate value based on the liquid 
level.

Installation height setting Installation height, according to the different types of water measuring weir/flume, its installation height measurement is also different, the following gives several standard water measuring weir/flume installation height confirmation method. Parshall Flume: The installation height is the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the bottom inside the water measuring flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: The installation height is the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the lowest point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters. Triangular Weir: The installation height is the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the right-angle point of the water outlet of the measuring weir, in meters
III. Flumes/Weirs selection and setting of corresponding geometric parameters According to the actual type of flume/weir, choose the standard flume/weir type. And according to different flume/weir types, set the corresponding geometric parameters, the following are the geometric parameters that need to be set for several common flumes/weirs: Parshall Flume: Select the flume type as parshall flume and set the standard flume number. The width of the throat section of a parshall flume is the criterion for determining the flume number, and the measured width of the throat section is shown in Table 1 to select its standard flume number. Rectangular weir: Select the flume type as rectangular weir, and set the channel width, weir width, bottom height of rectangular weir, and description of rectangular weir geometric parameters
