1.INTRODUCTION

The Ultrasonic Open Channel Flowmeter by Jiangsu Aice Instrument Technology Co., Ltd. is a state-of-the-art, non-contact device that leverages the principles of acoustic reflection to precisely measure water levels in weirs. By converting these measurements, it accurately determines the flow of water passing through. The system is composed of an ultrasonic probe and a mainframe, both featuring a fully plastic-sealed structure, making it ideal for industrial and environmental applications. The ultrasonic probe, positioned above the weir, intermittently emits ultrasonic waves towards the liquid surface. These waves are reflected back to the probe and the time of travel, t, is calculated by the main unit. Depending on the weir type, the host unit calculates the flow rate based on the detected liquid level.

I. Basic Setting Once the instrument installation is complete, simply set the installation height and select the standard weir/flume type for operation. II. Installation Height Setting Depending on the type of water measuring weir/flume, the installation height varies. Below are the methods to confirm the installation height for standard water measuring weirs/flumes: Parshall Flume: Measure the vertical distance from the ultrasonic transducer (probe) end to the bottom inside the water measuring flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the ultrasonic transducer (probe) end to the lowest point of the water outlet, in meters. Triangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the ultrasonic transducer (probe) end to the right-angle point of the water outlet, in meters.
III. Flume/Weir Selection and Geometric Parameters Setting Choose the standard flume/weir type based on the actual type. Set the corresponding geometric parameters for each type. Below are the geometric parameters for common flumes/weirs: Parshall Flume: Select 'Parshall Flume' and designate the standard flume number. The width of the throat section determines the flume number, as shown in Table 1. Rectangular Weir: Select 'Rectangular Weir' and set parameters such as channel width, weir width, bottom height, and a description of the geometric parameters.
