1. INTRODUCTION

The Ultrasonic Open Channel Flowmeter stands as a pinnacle of non-contact measurement technology. Utilizing the acoustic reflection principle, it detects the water level in weirs and converts this data to calculate the flow rate. This advanced instrument, encapsulating an ultrasonic probe and a mainframe in a fully plastic-sealed structure, is designed for accurate flow detection in open channels across various industries, including environmental protection. The ultrasonic probe, mounted at the upper part of the weir, emits periodic ultrasonic waves that reflect off the liquid surface. The main unit then measures the propagation time (t) of these waves. Given the weir type, the host calculates the precise flow rate based on the liquid level.

I. Basic Setting After completing the installation of the instrument, simply set the installation height and select the appropriate standard weir/flume type for operation. II. Installation Height Setting The installation height varies with each type of water-measuring weir/flume. Below are methods to confirm the installation height for standard weirs/flumes: Parshall Flume: Measure the vertical distance from the end of the ultrasonic transducer (probe) to the bottom inside the water measuring flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the transducer’s end to the lowest point of the weir outlet, in meters. Triangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the transducer’s end to the right-angle point of the weir outlet, in meters.
III. Flumes/Weirs Selection and Setting of Corresponding Geometric Parameters Select the appropriate standard flume/weir type based on the actual application. Set the corresponding geometric parameters as follows for common flumes/weirs: Parshall Flume: Select 'Parshall Flume' and set the standard flume number, determined by the throat section width, as shown in Table 1. Rectangular Weir: Select 'Rectangular Weir' and set the channel width, weir width, bottom height, and geometric parameters description.
