1. INTRODUCTION

The Ultrasonic Open Channel Flowmeter is a state-of-the-art, non-contact device that leverages the principles of acoustic reflection to precisely measure water levels in weirs. By translating these measurements, it accurately gauges water flow through the weir. This advanced meter comprises a fully sealed ultrasonic probe and mainframe, designed for robustness and reliability. Widely applicable in both industrial and environmental protection settings, it excels in monitoring open channel flow with high precision. The ultrasonic probe, mounted above the weir, emits ultrasonic beams periodically. These beams reflect off the water surface and return to the probe, with the main unit measuring the total propagation time. When combined with the predefined weir type, the unit calculates the flow rate based on the water level.

I. Basic Setting: Once the instrument is installed, set the installation height and select the appropriate weir/flume type for seamless operation. II. Installation Height Setting: Depending on the weir/flume type, you will need to measure and set the installation height accordingly. Here are the methods for various weirs/flumes: Parshall Flume: Measure the vertical distance from the ultrasonic transducer’s end to the bottom inside the flume, in meters. Rectangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the transducer’s end to the lowest point of the weir's water outlet, in meters. Triangular Weir: Measure the vertical distance from the transducer’s end to the right-angle point of the weir’s water outlet, in meters.
III. Flumes/Weirs Selection and Corresponding Geometric Parameters: Choose the appropriate flume/weir type based on your specific requirements. For each type, set the corresponding geometric parameters as follows: Parshall Flume: Select 'Parshall Flume' and set the standard flume number based on the throat section width, using Table 1 as a reference. Rectangular Weir: Select 'Rectangular Weir' and configure the channel width, weir width, bottom height, and other geometric parameters for accurate measurement.
